This past weekend we spent three wonderful days in Howell, Michigan at the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest (http://www.michiganchallenge.com/). We were part of the new Michigan Marketplace which highlighted some local Made in Michigan vendors. This marketplace was sponsored by the Heart of Michigan (http://www.heartofmich.com/) gift store which is located in beautiful downtown Howell. Owners Karen and John have really gone out of their way to support dozens of Made in Michigan companies and their store is just an amazing collection of all things yummy, pretty and fun! We were in good company at the Balloonfest.. Papa Turts from Fowlerville was there with their amazing hot sauces. My favorite is the Papa's Smoked Peppa sauce. I put this sauce on everything! (http://www.papaturts.com/product/papassmokedpeppa/) We were also lucky enough to be in the company of PopDaddy Popcorn (http://www.popdaddypopcorn.com/) with their amazing red kernel popcorn popped in olive oil with sea salt. To.Die.For.
We met some new friends as well.. Nicholas Westerholm from Chinks Creek Photography (http://chinkscreekphoto.wix.com/chinks-creek-photo) . He has some really beautiful photographs and other gift ideas to choose from. We alos met Jake from Live.Love.Michigan (http://www.livelovemichigan.com/) with the cutest Michigan clothes line I have ever seen! There were dozens of vendors there from all over the state. Along with the carnival and balloonfest activities it was a great, family friendly event.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the glow event on Saturday night. I have never had the opportunity to see this before and it was well worth the wait! I didn't really realize how BIG hot air balloons were until we got up close and personal with them. What a great experience!
